8 reasons to have a positive attitude

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

It is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult task which, more than anything else, will affect It’s successful outcome.” William James

Why you should be an optimist
1] The Lord is always with you. In Hebrews 13:5 we read:

Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has saidI will never leave you nor forsake you, quoted from Deut 31:6, 8; Joshua 1:5 (Emphasis added). Knowing the Lord has your back should be more than reason enough to pursue what you know will benefit you but are unaware of the outcome.

2] Your attitude determines your performance. It is actually really simple, start something with a negative attitude, you will be more likely to perform poorly and thus the outcome will be negative. If you, however, began with a positive mindset…

3] Positive people generate a comforting atmosphere. It is all about bringing joy and peace everywhere you go. Optimists do this naturally. Concerning this point, it is wiser to look at things from a different perspective. In a sense you are thinking the opposite of what everyone else is thinking, which more often than not will be something pessimistic in bad situations. I say this because I recently saw a series where one of the star casts changes his outlook on life by responding with, “yes” whenever an opportunity presented itself. That is not practical or wise.

4] You become a role model. Particularly in bad situations, especially those where you experience the loss of a loved one. It was a great test for me when my aunt died earlier this year. Psalm 34:1 is what I put to the test and it did wonders for me! This is what it says:

 I will bless the LORD at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth (Emphasis added)

When you believe that things can always get better or that there is some good in whatever you experience, you seldom put yourself in positions where you feel depressed because of thinking the wrong things about yourself, others and things that happen to you. When people see a different side of you or something in you that makes you stand out, they will want to know what it is that makes you different and special.

5] You are more likely to accomplish more. It is so much easier to stay focused on anything as long you believe you are making progress, even when it is clear that you are not! Staying positive keeps you in check. You are always looking for newer and better ways of completing a task that looks like it can’t be finished. Why? Only because to you, in your world and your vocabulary, there is no such word as, “I can’t.”

6] You see opportunities where others see a dead-end. It is really about perspective. Since the word, “Impossible” does not exist to you, you are able to advance forward, moving past obstacles that seem like hindrances but are actually assets that you can use heavily to your advantage!

7] Learning is the key thing that keeps you moving. Not everything will work out. Not all bad experiences can be taken lightly. The important thing is learning the ropes along the way. Whilst there can be tips and guidelines on how to stay positive in everything you do, in the end, it is really something you learn on the job. Why? The beauty about learning is that you always learn something new. Those with a teachable spirit grasp certain things faster than others and are able to do so from basically anything in life. Be it people who are where they want to be, mistakes from others, something new altogether or in some way out of the ordinary, as long they learn, they grow.

8] Being positive takes time. First of all it is because it requires thinking positive. That alone can be hard. If you come up with a strategy to make sure you think positive, first about yourself then everything else, it becomes easier over time. You might want to decide to believe you can do better. Meaning to set higher standards for yourself, not to sell yourself short. To believe you have the potential to be great, especially at what you’re good at. Stay focused, keep your head high and enjoy your life!

“I believe life is to be lived, not worked, enjoyed, not agonized, loved, not hated.”
Leland Bartlett

  1. You see opportunities where others see a dead-end <– Remember modern day Israelis say impossible means it hasn't been done yet when common man says it cannot be done. Quite true really how your attitude allows you to see opportunities where others are blind

  2. Excellent post. During the difficult times, one Scripture that keeps me going is, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28) May the Lord bless you abundantly, today and every day!
